This hour-long webinar explored the central role of shared identity in connecting schools to each other and to the larger community, especially in rural areas. Todd Miller, superintendent at Santiam Canyon School District, discussed how a strong sense of identity helped the Mill City community get through devastating forest fires and the Covid-19 pandemic. Leaders had the chance to reflect on their own school identity and its role in tying different segments of the community together.

    Questions for reflection:

    • How would you describe your school’s identity? How would a student, staff member, or community member?
    • How have you, or how might you, leverage your school’s identity when addressing community challenges?
