Crowdsource Coffee: Practices that Uproot a Culture of Fear
About This Event
Crowdsource Coffees are just-in-time conversations about topics relevant to leaders in the Portico community. These conversations are for school leaders to discuss shared challenges and exchange insights about what’s working as they transform the student experience and use inclusive leadership practices with their communities.
In this Crowdsource Coffee, we will examine the fears that exist in our schools–fears of failure, chaos, disagreement, and others–and how they get in the way of a positive school climate. We will brainstorm strategies to get at the root of these fears and how to address them with affirming, brave practices.
Before this event, we encourage leaders to take 10-15 minutes in advance to review this Toolkit item:
If you only have five minutes or less, think about the following prompt:
- How would you define a culture of fear in the context of education? What would a fear-based school culture look like in the classroom, in the principal’s office, or outside the building?
If you have more time, we encourage you to explore the resources linked below and include them in your conversations.
These steps are optional, but highly recommended. So even if you don’t have any time, we still encourage you to attend!
