Energize Your Students to Take Ownership of Their Learning in the Classroom

February 9, 2021 @ 9:00 am – 10:00 am PST
Presented by: Coming soon!
Desiree Kiesel, Principal of Woodburn Arts and Communications Academy, and Ross Anderson, Principal Researcher at Inflexion, speak about student ownership of learning. Through the MakeSPACE project, they partner to foster ownership of learning in the classroom. This initiative enhances the creative resources of K-12 educators and facilitates innovative arts integration strategies for creative engagement in student learning. When students have ownership of their learning they feel curious, empowered, driven, and capable and they see challenges as worthy of their effort because those difficulties feel purposeful and valuable.
In this workshop we will explore:
- Three key elements that influence student ownership and autonomy
- How classroom design and teaching practices can build student agency
- Real stories of schools shifting toward ownership-focused learning
By participating, you will be ready to:
- Spot opportunities to strengthen student ownership in your school
- Identify clear signs of student ownership in classrooms and student work
- Support teachers in creating trust-based, student-driven learning environments
