This interactive workshop centers student voice as a driver for equity, connection, and transformation in schools. Grounded in principles of social justice, cultural relevance, and restorative practices, it challenges deficit-based thinking and embraces asset-based approaches to support every learner. Led by Carmen Gelman, a dynamic facilitator whose energy and lived experience inspire deep connection, participants will explore how to create school climates that affirm students’ identities, prioritize their unique needs, and empower them to thrive.
In this workshop we will explore:
- Strategies for centering student voice to shape equitable and inclusive school practices
- The impact of culturally relevant, restorative, and asset-based approaches on student engagement
- How to shift adult mindsets to better honor and support the diverse identities and needs of all learners
