Webinar: Develop Structures That Elevate Student Voice in Equitable Ways

December 15, 2022 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm PST

Presented by: Carmen Gelman

This hour-long webinar covers the importance of student voice and how to create equitable structures to maximize its use in decision making. With Carmen Gelman, Director of Professional Development, Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA). Carmen shares how she set up structures and student advisory committees that truly represent all student groups, and how she used these structures to make leadership decisions.

In this workshop we will explore:

  1. The difference between authentic student voice and surface-level input.
  2. How to design inclusive structures that represent all student groups.
  3. School-based examples where student voice influences real decisions.

By participating, you will be ready to:

  1. Reflect on whose voices are being heard — and whose are missing.
  2. Apply systems like advisory groups and protocols to elevate student voice.
  3. Foster a school culture where student input drives meaningful action.
