Help Students Prepare for Life After High School Through Self-Reflection

November 13, 2020 @ 9:00 am – 10:00 am PST
Presented by: Manuel Colón and Carlos Hernández
Carlos Hernández, former Director of Curriculum and Instruction / Instructional Support Services, and Manuel Colón, former Chief Academic Officer, Educational Services, at Anaheim Union High School District shared how Savanna High School tackled challenges around student readiness using the 5Cs (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character) and student reflection to transform the student experience at the school.
In this workshop we will explore:
- Structures that bring a vision to life in every classroom—through shared learning capacities, aligned instructional practices, and meaningful reflection.
- How to support students in identifying, developing, and reflecting on the transferable skills they’ll need to thrive beyond graduation.
- How teacher-led initiatives, reflection practices, and capstone projects bring a school’s vision to life across content areas and grade levels.
By participating, you will be ready to:
- Help students reflect on their growth and articulate how their school experiences have shaped who they are and where they’re going.
- Guide students in communicating their strengths and accomplishments with confidence—to educators, community members, colleges, and potential employers.
- Support students in developing a clear sense of purpose and readiness, with tools that help them assess their progress and prepare for life after high school..
