Webinar: Building a Culture of Mind, Heart, and Spirit

Virtual Event

November 17, 2022 @ 10:00 am 11:00 am PST

Presented by: Angela Stevens-Stevenson and Michelle Liebhardt

This interactive workshop delves into the power of a shared identity within a school community. We’ll explore how to cultivate the shared values, beliefs, and understandings that create a supportive and purposeful learning environment for each and every student.

In this workshop we will explore:

  1. How to identify the core values and beliefs that will serve as the foundation for your school community.
  2. How to craft a clear set of goals that encompass academic, social, and emotional well-being for all students.
  3. Strategies to engage all stakeholders (teachers, staff, families, students, and the broader community) in building a shared identity.

By participating, you will be ready to:

  1. Develop a practical plan to implement your shared identity and celebrate successes.
  2. Apply a framework for creating a holistic learning environment that benefits all students.

In Teaching with Poverty in Mind: What Being Poor Does to Kids’ Brains and What Schools Can Do About It, veteran educator and brain expert Eric Jensen takes an unflinching look at how poverty hurts children, families, and communities across the United States and demonstrates how schools can improve the academic achievement and life readiness of economically disadvantaged students.

In this galvanizing follow-up to the best-selling Teaching with Poverty in Mind, renowned educator and learning expert Eric Jensen digs deeper into engagement as the key factor in the academic success of economically disadvantaged students.

In his poem, “Cause I Ain’t Got a Pencil,” Joshua T. Dickerson describes some of the daily challenges children face through no fault of their own.

By sharing this our hope is adults will think twice and offer help rather than even more hardship.

About the Presenters

Angela Stevens-Stevenson’s childhood in the South during the Civil Rights Movement and her own experience of school integration influenced her passion for education. She received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northeast Louisiana University, and a Masters degree from UC Berkeley. Mrs. Stevens- Stevenson worked at Los Medanos Elementary School in Pittsburg, CA as a teacher, vice principal, and principal for over 20 years. Under her leadership, the school won Title I academic awards, test scores went up, and student engagement increased. In 2011, Angela was named to oversee the opening of Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School, where she worked with staff, students, and families to create an environment with strong connections with the community, high standards for scholars, and respect and appreciation for the diversity of the student body.

Michelle is a lifelong learner with a passion for education. With experience in research, technology, and consulting, her focus has always been on improving student experiences. Believing in the power of curiosity-driven learning, she champions educators who empower students through engaging experiences. Currently, her work centers on helping schools move beyond traditional systems to create a more meaningful learning environment.
