Carlos Hernandez

Recognizing the pressures school leaders face, Carlos Hernandez believes in the transformative power of collaborative support that comes from coaching. Raised in Detroit, Michigan, and later Anaheim, California, as the son of migrant parents from Jalisco, Mexico, Carlos was profoundly influenced by his educational journey within the Anaheim Union High School District. After earning a Mathematics degree from UCLA in 1999, he returned to his alma mater as a teacher. Over six years, he not only taught math but also led programs such as MESA and served in various leadership roles.
In 2005, Carlos became an assistant principal at Savanna High School, where he cultivated his skills as an instructional leader and emphasized the importance of community relationships. This led to principalships at South Junior High School and Savanna High School until 2017. Currently serving as Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Anaheim Union High School District, Carlos advocates for collaborative leadership, offering coaching and shared experiences to fellow educators. His journey exemplifies resilience and a commitment to empowering students and communities through education.
